John Wilkes was born in Huron, Ohio in 1943. He began his photography and photo career with a BFA at Ohio State University where he studied in the Ames Perception Laboratory. He graduated Cum Laude and went on to receive a full scholarship and an MFA at Rutgers Univerisity where he studied and taught photography and graphics. After college, he moved to New York to concentrate on still life and portraiture in both the editorial and advertising fields. He has won many awards including the PDN gold award for digital work, the APA award for corporate work, and the PDN award for self-advertising and many others. He has shot over 50 covers for major magazine clients.
